The Gulf created by the separation of the awareness of the Persona and the presence of the Spirit. The greater the separation of Persona and Spirit, the greater the Gulf of the Abyss. This Abyss houses denizens of various natures, the most important of which is Choronzon. The experience and the affect of the Abyss is different for males and females, the former of which tend toward megalomaniacal insanity and power lust, while the latter tend to become lost and fragmented. The cure for both however is the same: the Persona must enact subservience to the guidance of their Spirit. It is only by following a path in life other than that of the Will of your Spirit that the Abyss grows and gains power. Or to look at it another way, the Abyss grows in power the more that the Persona seeks to usurp the rightful place of the Spirit, especially by seeking the immortality of the Spirit for itself.
